If you’ve taken our Introduction to Ice Climbing course or have some previous ice climbing experience elsewhere, this full day course is for you.  After reviewing the basics and getting back into the swing of things, we will then focus on specific techniques for efficient movement on steeper ice, focusing in on building more confidence to allow you to climb longer, steeper lines.  From here the goal will be to cover a lot of new ground, ideally on a multi-pitch route.  This will give us a great opportunity to refine your skills, get an up-close look at ice anchors and have a ton of fun!  You’ll become more confident on steep terrain and understand how to move a climbing party smoothly and more efficiently through the vertical world.  As with all of our courses, we provide all technical gear and offer everyone personalized instruction in a group environment.

IMPORTANT:  1) Weather and conditions may inhibit us from covering all topics outlined in this course.  Please be open to a flexible schedule.  2) Groups classes require a minimum enrollment of two people.  If you are booking alone for a group class your reservation is subject to change if minimum enrollment is not reached.  Group classes are perfect for those with flexible schedules.  If you have specific time and learning needs, any class can be booked privately any day of the week.  For information about private reservations, please call 845-668-2030.

Itinerary

Groups meet promptly at 8:30am at the Eastern Mountain Sports in North Conway.  Click here for directions.  In the morning you will meet your guide and get outfitted with climbing gear for the day.  Once everyone is outfitted, groups will leave straight for the trailhead.  The whole day will be spent outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather.  You should also bring enough food and water for the entire day and a backpack to carry items to the cliff.  The day will end around 4:30pm back at EMS.

Included/Not Included

Climbers will be outfitted with all technical equipment for the day.  You are welcome to bring your own gear but it will be subject to a safety inspection by your guide.  Equipment provided includes mountaineering boots, crampons, mountaineering axe, ice tools, harness, helmet, and climbing hardware.  Climbers will be expected to arrive dressed appropriately for the weather and provide their own water, lunches, and snacks for the day.  See our gear list for a complete list of items you will be responsible for bringing.  Meals, lodging and transportation are not included.
