Kayak and SUP Rentals

LAKE MASSAPOAG NOW OPEN!

Lake Massapoag is a beautiful 353-acre lake located 25 miles south of Boston.  In the 19th century, it served as a location for Massachusetts’ booming ice trade business.  Now, it is our newest paddle location!

Eastern Mountain Sports provides Kayak and Stand UP Paddleboard Rentals, with Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard Classes and Tours coming soon.  Come join us this paddle season!

Hours of Operation

NOW OPEN!  We provide rentals now through Labor Day Weekend, 7 days a week 9:30am to 6pm (weather permitting).*  Rentals are available on a first come, first served basis.  We accept all forms of credit/debit.

*Last one-hour rental of the day goes out at 4:45pm.  All rentals must be back on shore by 5:45pm.

Please note that the EMS Paddle School is located on Memorial Park Beach, which is a resident-only beach.  Any non-Sharon residents are welcome to come paddle with EMS, but cannot make use of the beach area.  Community Center Beach (on the other side of Lake Massapoag) is open to the public.

FAQs

– All outings with EMS Schools are smoke, drug, and alcohol-free.  And although we love our furry friends, please leave all non-human animals at home.  Thank you!

Q: What is included with a rental?
A: Rentals include paddle and PFD (flotation vest). With your request, our staff will provide a quick demonstration of paddling basics.

Q: Do I need to make a reservation?
A: WE DO NOT ACCEPT RESERVATIONS during normal hours of operation. Rentals are first come, first served. If you are planning a party/group outing (scouts, school groups, work functions, meetup groups, etc.) and would like to reserve outside of our normal business hours, please call our main office at 845-668-2030 to see if we can accommodate you.

Q: I’ve never paddled before. Can I still rent a kayak or SUP?
A: Yes. Kayaks and paddleboards are fun for any ability level! We do not place restrictions on rentals due to lack of experience. We also offer kayak and paddleboard lessons. Please call 845-668-2030 for more information.

Q: What is the minimum age for renting or using a kayak or SUP?
A: There is no minimum age to use our rentals.  Each person must be able to fit properly into our PFDs (flotation vests).  Anyone 18 years and older must sign a waiver.  Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign a waiver.  Children 16 and 17 years old may paddle with a parent or guardian on shore.  Children 15 years old and under must have a parent or guardian on the water with them.
